Limited storage space is always the pain for most apartment dwellers. Common complaints are like “There’s always not enough space for storage.” “Shelves without doors are dust-welcomed.” “A single stretch of room may be a great solution, but two-or three-room is preferable.” Well, it doesn’t have to be a losing battle. There are always tricks to make the best use of the limited space.
Though it was two years ago, I still remember the first time when I met W&Y at the construction site. Words to describe the space are mostly begin with M-misty, messy, maculate, and definitely mend-required.
The first idea they came up was to remodel the narrow and tiny kitchen into an open plan one. I really appreciate the concise idea my clients propose. It makes the whole project more cost-effective. As for this one, we had sufficient time to discuss the dreamy kitchen. The window with white shutter on the left below picture was originally an exit to the terrace. Considering there’s already a French window right next to it in the living room, there’s no need to keep this exit. Yet, we still want the shade of light in the kitchen. A feature brick wall came up as the solution. Space was then expand and an L-shape kitchen counter helps for storage.
Open kitchens, dining and living spaces offer great versatility for the way we live today. Dedicated lighting, from task to mood, is tailored to suit each activity or occasion.
Months later, the renovation was complete, and the family has now stayed put for a while. I admire the way they put the warmth into this apartment. Every little nook had a captivating detail, from the beautiful postcards hang on the window to their collection of little plants at the terrace! The beautiful rain boots reminds me the never ceasing rain during the time when we worked together. Some of you may find the “door plate”. It’s not green but nostalgic blue. The host past his childhood time in this apartment. I kept it when I found it while renovating and gave it to him as a gift when they moved in. It certainly brings back some sweet memories.
Sometimes I saw the photos they post on their blog with homemade waffles, after dinner cocktails, and morning fresh juice. I think the task of interior design does not end when the work is complete but starts when the hosts move in.
Finally, I have to say sorry for the appointment we made for the afternoon tea long time ago. Definitely, I will make time for it!
